CLEVELAND – Cal State San Marcos Athletics had a record 96 student-athletes earn the 2021-22 Academic Achievement Award from the Division 2 Athletics Directors Association (D2 ADA) on Friday.
The Cougars tied with Cal State Monterey Bay for the second-most student-athletes honored in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) behind Chico State's 123.
In order for a student-athlete to receive an Academic Achievement Award, the director of athletics at each Division II institution must be a current dues-paying member of the D2 ADA.
Also, the student-athlete must:
• Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Have attended a minimum of two years (four semesters) of college-level work.
• Have been an active member of an intercollegiate team during his/her last academic year.
In total, there were a record-breaking 16,761 student-athletes from 171 institutions recognized for the 2021-22 Academic Achievement Awards. This is the most student-athletes being recognized since the inception of the award's program.

"It's been so impressive to see the number of student-athlete's recognized for their stellar performance in the classroom grow to record numbers year to year since the inception of this award. This a reflection our member institution's commitment to ensuring special recognition of the academic success of so many well-deserving student-athletes."
The D2 ADA is the first organization of its kind to provide educational and networking opportunities; enhancement of acceptable operating standards and ethics; and establishment of the overall prestige and understanding of the profession of Division II athletics directors. The D2 ADA is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), which is in its 58th year.
