AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR IN 2022 DURING TRACK & FIELD
 
  • Ran a season-best 1500-meter time of 3:56.06 at the Triton Invitational (April 8-9).
  • Had a season-best 5K time of 14:44.44 at the APU Last Chance (May 13-14).
  • Finished fifth in the 10K at the CCAA Track & Field Championships (May 5-7) with a season-best time of 30:38.09.
  • Best 3000-meter run time of 8:38.65 came at the RCC Invitational (March 4).
  • Mile time of 4:22.21 at the OIDFE Challenge (Jan. 29) was the ninth fastest in program history.

AS A REDSHIRT SENIOR IN 2021 DURING CROSS COUNTRY
  • Competed in six races. 
  • Placed fourth at the Biola Invitational (Sept. 10) with an 8K time of 25:02.2. 
  • Took 14th place at the CCAA Cross Country Championships (Oct. 23) with an 8K time of 25:09.9. 
  • Took 22nd at the NCAA West Regional (Nov. 6) with a 10K time of 31:30.5.

  • Attended CSUSM but was not a member of the team.

AS A REDSHIRT JUNIOR IN 2019 DURING CROSS COUNTRY
  • Competed in seven races.
  • Finished fourth at the Cougar Challenge (Sept. 13) with a personal-best 8k time of 24:20.8.
  • Clocked a personal-best 10k time of 30:56.0 at the NCAA Division II West Region Cross Country Championship (Nov. 9), finishing 33rd. 
  • Placed third at the Biola Invitational (Sept. 7) with a time of 25:22.1. 

AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE IN 2019 AT CUYAMACA COLLEGE DURING TRACK & FIELD
  • Finished second in the 10,000-meter run at the CCCAA California State Championships with a time of 31:33.27.
  • Took third in the 5,000-meter run at the Pacific Coast Conference Prelms and Championships with a time of 15:41.42.
  • Earned All-America honors, becoming the first-ever athlete to become an All-American in two different sports in the history of Cuyamaca College.
  • Finished his career at Cuyamaca with six All-Conference honors for track and cross country.

AS A REDSHIRT SOPHOMORE IN 2018 AT CUYUMACA COLLEGE DURING CROSS COUNTRY
  • Took fourth at the Southern California Championships with a season-best four-mile time of 19:41.9.

  • Ran a season-best 10,000-meter time at the CCCAA Southern California Regional Prelims and Championships with a time of 32:41.15.

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2016 AT CUYAMACA COLLEGE DURING CROSS COUNTRY
  • Placed 16th at the CCCAA California Community College State Championships with a four-mile time of 20:56.3
  • Recorded a season-best four-mile time of 20:54.7 at the California Community College SoCal Cross Country Championships.

HIGH SCHOOL
  • 2016 graduate of Santana High School in Santee, California.
  • Five-time All-Grossmont League selection.
  • Was a top-20 CIF cross country runner in 2016 and a three-time Athlete of the Year.

PERSONAL
  • Son of Rishan Zegu and Okubay Araya.
  • Has four brothers, Araya, Dawit, Misgina and Hailemariam, and two sisters, Amleset and Winta.
  • Wants to become a sports agent after graduation.
  • Favorite athlete is Meb Keflezighi.
  • Most memorable moment is going into the 10,000-meter run at the CCCAA ranked 10th and finished second.
  • Came to the United States as a refugee from Eritrea in 2014.
  • Didn't know much English prior to moving to the U.S., but joining track and cross country helped him graduate on time and learn the language.
  • Majoring in Business Administration.
