Ran an 8K personal-best time of 28:32.5 at the Highlander Invitational to place 248th.

Led team to back-to-back Avocado West League Championships in track & field (2017, 2018).
Guided team to 2019 Avocado West League and CIF Championships.
Also played soccer where the team won Avocado West League and CIF Championships in 2019-20.
Graduated with honors.

PERSONAL

Born in San Diego and grew up in Encinitas.
Son of Abel and Gloria Castellanos.
Has three siblings: Julia, Tanner and Savannah.
Intends to become a physical therapist or sports doctor.
Enjoys surfing and hiking.
Favorite movie is “The Way, Way Back”.
Roots for the Los Angeles Chargers and San Diego Padres.
Favorite athletes are Donavan Brazier and Phillip Rivers.
Greatest influence is his mom and dad.
Favorite good is anything Mexican.
Most memorable moment was coming in third in the 800m out of all San Diego.
Is the fifth Abel in his family hence why he goes by AJ (Abel Jr.).
Gives back to the community by working with children from low income families.
Plans on majoring in Kinesiology.
