SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (3-8, 2-2 CCAA) will head to Northern California for a pair of CCAA matches this weekend. The Cougars' first stop is Stanislaus State (11-2, 3-1 CCAA) on Friday, Sept. 23 for a 5 p.m. match before heading further north to Chico State (3-8, 1-3 CCAA) on Saturday, Sept. 24 for a 2 p.m. match.
LAST WEEK
- The Cougars dropped a three-set match to Cal State LA, who is receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 poll, in their CCAA home opener last Thursday by scores of 16-25, 19-25 and 22-25.
- After falling 10-25 in the opening set against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Saturday, the Cougars rallied back to win the match with scores of 25-21, 25-17 and 25-20.
- Jessica Thomas hit .308 with 18 kills on 39 attempts and only six errors while Trinity Barr registered 21 kills and 18 digs on the weekend.

FRIDAY AT STANISLAUS
- Stan State ended its non-conference schedule with a five-set victory (24-26, 25-22, 23-25, 25-12, 15-11) at home against Holy Names on Tuesday night.
- The Warriors are 3-1 in conference play, dropping their CCAA opener to Cal State LA in four sets before recording three consecutive four-set victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills, San Francisco State and Cal State Monterey Bay.
- CSUSM holds a 6-3 lead in the all-time series against Stan State and is 2-2 in Turlock.
- The teams split their series last season with the away team recording the victory in both instances. After falling in five sets in San Marcos, the Cougars bounced back with a sweep in Turlock.
- Stan State ranks 43rd in aces per set (1.90) in the nation and is led by Haley Burdo who ranks third in the CCAA (56th in Division II) with a .45 per set average.
- Senior Macky Morris is leading the Warriors in offense with a 2.80 kills per set average.
- The Warriors were picked to finish eighth in the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll.

SATURDAY AT CHICO
- Prior to Saturday's match, the Wildcats will host Cal State East Bay on Friday at 5 p.m.
- Chico State is posting a 1-3 conference record with its lone victory coming at home against Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 16. The Wildcats were swept at Cal State LA and at home against San Francisco State while falling in four sets at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
- CSUSM is boasting a 6-3 record in the all-time series against Chico State and is 3-1 when playing in Chico.
- The Cougars have won the last four meetings that included a series sweep last season with four-set victories in both wins.
- The Wildcats are led by Makaela Keeve who ranks second in CCAA in total blocks while registering a team-best .290 attack percentage and 3.34 kills per set.
- CSUDH was selected to finish 10th out of 12 teams in the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll.
2022 CSUSM VOLLEYBALL NOTES
- The Cougars return two starters from the 2021 season - Kiora Ridgeway (MB) and Madison Turner (S).
- Eight will be donning Cougar Blue for the first time on Thursday with four being true freshmen and four transferring from a four-year college.
- The 2021 season ended with CSUSM making its fourth consecutive appearance in the CCAA Volleyball Tournament - the most by any CSUSM program that requires a qualification.
- The Cougars finished their 2021 campaign with a 12-13 overall record and 9-9 in CCAA play – sixth in the CCAA standings.
- As a team in the CCAA statistics, CSUSM concluded 2021 ranked fourth in digs per set (15.22) and fifth in kills per set (12.55) and blocks per set (1.88).
- San Francisco State transfer Trinity Barr is featured on the 2022 CCAA Preseason Watchlist after earning All-CCAA first team honors last season.
- In the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, the Cougars were picked to finish fourth.
THE LEONARD FILE
- Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her 12th season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
- Leonard has a 191-137 (.582) record as CSUSM's head coach.
- In 19 seasons as a collegiate head volleyball coach, Leonard holds a 283-263 (.518) career record.
- Leonard was CSUSM's first-ever CCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to a third-place finish in the overall standings during the 2017 season.
