CSUSM Sweeps SF State for First CCAA Win

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (4-5, 1-1 CCAA) earned its first conference victory of the season Saturday evening, sweeping San Francisco State (2-6, 0-2 CCAA) by scores of 25-18, 25-18 and 26-24 at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • CSUSM took a 5-1 lead before SF State answered with five consecutive points to move ahead 6-5. The Cougars regained control and built an 18-15 advantage behind kills from Lewis and Seligmiller. With CSUSM leading 19-18, the Cougars scored the final six points behind Kehoe's serve to take the opening set 25-18.
  • After falling behind 2-0 in the second set, CSUSM responded with five straight points to take a 5-2 lead. The Cougars extended the advantage to 11-6 and later used a 5-1 run to go ahead 19-12. CSUSM hit .333 in the frame and secured another 25-18 victory on a Lewis kill.
  • The Gators scored the first two points of the third set before the Cougars answered with four consecutive points. With the score tied at 7-all, CSUSM went on a 7-0 run behind Annika Blas-Cedeno's serve to build a 14-7 advantage.
  • SF State erased a 20-13 deficit and earned set point at 24-23. Kranz tied the score with a kill before a Gator attack error put CSUSM ahead. Shelby Jackson followed with a match-clinching ace for the 26-24 win.

  • CSUSM led in kills (36-35), service aces (5-4), digs (67-58) and blocks (5-4).
  • The Cougars hit .192 while holding the Gators to a .118 hitting percentage.
  • CSUSM committed 12 attack errors compared with San Francisco State's 19.
  • Lewis recorded her second consecutive double-double with 12 kills and 13 digs.
  • Kehoe's 17 digs were a match high.
  • Kranz reached double figures in kills for the sixth time this season.
