SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (3-5, 0-1 CCAA) fell in four sets (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 23-25) to Cal State East Bay (2-5, 1-0 CCAA) in both teams' conference opener Friday evening at The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- CSUSM scored the first seven points of the match behind Jules Tindall's serve. Cal State East Bay cut the deficit to one at 19-18 and later tied the set at 20-all, but the Cougars closed on a 5-2 run highlighted by kills from Seligmiller and Cooley and an Eleanor Brislen ace to win 25-22.
- The Cougars built an 11-7 lead in the second set before the Pioneers responded with five consecutive points. The teams traded the advantage until the score was tied at 21-all, when East Bay scored the final four points to take the set 25-21. CSUSM hit a match-best .346 in the frame.
- East Bay jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the third set, but CSUSM answered with a 6-1 run to pull even at 9-all. The Cougars later used four consecutive points to turn a 17-15 deficit into a 19-17 lead and went ahead 21-19. The Pioneers responded by scoring six of the final seven points for a 25-22 victory.
- After Cal State East Bay took a 16-14 lead in the fourth set, CSUSM used a 6-1 run to move ahead 20-17. The Cougars extended their advantage to 21-18 on a Zoe Liebel kill, but the Pioneers scored three straight to tie the set. Cooley pulled CSUSM even again at 23-all before East Bay claimed the final two points to close the match.
