GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team won its first team title of the season at the Western New Mexico Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Golf Club of Estrella.
 
CSUSM carded a 15-over 303 on day two and finished with a two-round total of 29-over 605, just one stroke ahead of second place Arkansas Tech (606, 30). Colorado Mesa (620, 44), Regis (621, 45) and Colorado State-Pueblo (623, 47) rounded out the top five.
 
Sophomore Jaime Jacob was the Cougars' top golfer, tying for second place with a 1-over 145. She shot even on the back nine including four birdies on the day.
 
Junior Bergen Benedict jumped up four spots following round two after shooting a 1-over 73 on Tuesday. She finished tied for ninth overall and carded a 5-over 149 for the two rounds combined. Freshman Claire Hogle, also moving up on the leaderboard, finished tied for 16th after posting a 4-over 76 on day two and finishing with a 10-over 154 in her first collegiate tournament.
 
Junior Sarah Garcia tied for 22nd with a 13-over 157 while sophomore Savannah Magallon finished tied for 34th with a 15-over 159 to round out the scores for CSUSM.
 
University of Redlands Caroline Ordian took home the individual medalists honors after carding an even-over 144 to win by just a stroke over Jacob.
 
Up next for the Cougars is the CSUSM Fall Classic on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31 starting at 7 a.m. at the Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos.
