SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team finished first and second on Tuesday at the CSUSM Fall Classic at Twin Oaks Golf Course.
The CSUSM Blue Team took first in the 15-team field with an 18-over 594. The CSUSM White Team followed with 29-over 605 to take second place. Sonoma State (+37, 613) and Dixie State (+37, 613) tied for third while Cal State East Bay (+38, 614) round out the top five.
Junior
Sarah Garcia, competing on the CSUSM White Team, collected her first collegiate title with a field-best 72 on the final day of the tournament to jump eight spots on the leaderboard. She concluded the 36-hole event with a 3-over 147 and tied with Sonoma State's Sabrina Virtusio, but Garcia won the card off to clinch the title. Junior
Samantha Barker, also competing on the White Team, carded a 7-over 151 to tie for ninth while classmate
Bergen Benedict tied for 14th after shooting a 9-over 153.
Sophomore
Jaime Jacob, competing on the White Team, carded an 11-over 155 while senior
Christina Trujillo finished jumped 14 spots on the final day to finish tied for 25th after carding a 13-over 157.
The CSUSM Blue Team was led by freshman
Claire Hogle (74-75), junior
Joan Park (72-77) and classmate
Savannah Magallon (73-76), who all finished in a four-way tie for fourth place. Each golfer finished at 5-over 149 for the tournament.
Freshman
Daniela Rodea placed eighth with a 6-over 150, including a 73 on day two. Sophomore
Emily Lichty finished tied for 14th with a 9-over 153 to round out the scores for the CSUSM Blue Team.
The Cougars are back in action on Feb. 5-6 at the Point Loma Reach 2018.
