CSUSM Volleyball to Conclude Regular Season with Clash Against The Master’s College

SAN MARCOS, Calif.— Playing some of their best volleyball of the season, the Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team will look to make a strong last impression in front of the home fans as they face No. 7 ranked The Master's College Friday in their final game before the A.I.I. Championships in Mayville, N.D.

The 16th ranked Cougars, who are 3-3 against ranked opponents this season, will be facing a dangerous Mustang group that has lost only three times in their last 19 games— all against opponents ranked in the Top 4. CSUSM dropped a tight match against The Master's in Santa Clarita earlier this season, but will look to turn the tables in front of the raucous Cougar crowd.

In all, the Cougars are 6-2 at home in 2012, and are 3-3 against fellow ranked NAIA opponents. Head coach Andrea Leonard scheduled a large number of matches against NCAA opponents this season to prepare the team for talented opponents like the Master's. Still, Leonard and the Cougars would appreciate a loud and packed gym Friday evening, both to help put the team over the top and to honor the outstanding group of seniors who will be competing in their final home match.

Nichole May, Lindsey Mitchell, Brittany Thompson, and Lindsey Sappington will comprise the first collection of senior's in program history. This group helped establish the base of the program, which has excelled in its short two-year history. Since the program's debut, the team has gone 53-20 (.726), and has asserted itself as a reputable NAIA power.

"These four seniors have not only set the bar high, but have truly made a lasting foundation here for the program," said head coach Andrea Leonard. "Each of them brings a special quality that has allowed us so much success early on. Their commitment, dedication, and enthusiasm will forever be valued and cemented in our history."

The team's overall play as of late has been terrific with the Cougars currently riding a season long 12-set undefeated streak over the span of their past four matches. Although the team has recorded 18 of their 24 victories in straight sets, Friday's showdown is expected to be a back-and-forth battle with several lead changes and long rallies.

The match begins at 8:00 pm at Escondido High School, but Cal State San Marcos suggests that fans please arrive around five to ten minutes early to catch the Senior Day festivities.
