Men's Soccer Falls 4-0 to #2 Azusa Pacific

Box Score

CSUSM men's soccer traveled to Azusa on Wednesday thinking upset, but early goals in both the first and second halves sunk CSUSM, 4-0.

San Marcos falls to 4-5 on the season, while #2-ranked Azusa Pacific improves to 7-0.

Azusa has blitzed the opposing team early on in just about every game this season, so the Cougars' top priority was to avoid getting down early.  But in just the 5th minute, Azusa recorded its first goal on a Trenton Titus header.

Still, CSUSM would regroup and respond well, playing Azusa even through the rest of the half and creating some dangerous chances of their own.  A 47th-minute Azusa goal from Cito Soriano would take the wind out of the Cougars' sails, however, just as the second half started.  Soriano would go on to add another, and Nathan Nienhuis would cap off the scoring.

"We needed to bring our 'A' game to win today," commented CSUSM Coach Ron Pulvers, "and we didn't quite have it."

The Cougars will next be in action on October 2nd at Biola.
