HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Scoreless after 45 minutes, the Golden Eagles had a 6-5 edge in shots while both teams put three shots on goal. The Cougars led the half in corner kicks at 2-1.
  • CUI took a 1-0 lead in the 63rd minute. After a shot by Marcus Ozmai on the right side was deflected off the keeper, Jonathan Moreno put the rebound into the upper right side of the goal from a yard in front of the penalty marker.
  • After a Golden Eagles shot was saved and bounced out of the box, Moreno gained possession and made a pass over to David Garcia, who sailed a shot into the right side of the goal from 10 yards outside the top right portion of the box to give CUI a 2-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
  • The Cougars responded in the 75th minute. Battling for possession between the left side of box and sideline, Daniel Schembri made a pass from the touchline into the right side of the box where Blake Haseyama connected with a low roller into the left side of the goal to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • Just 20 seconds after a pair of red cards were issued to CUI and CSUSM, the Cougars were awarded a penalty kick after getting tripped in the box. Andrew Valencia lined up for the penalty kick and put a low shot into the middle of the goal to knot the game at 2-2 in the 80th minute.
  • The Golden Eagles went up 3-2 in the 85th minute after Moreno sent a low cross from near the touchline on the left side of the box, finding the foot of Andrew Jun just in front of the keeper who put the ball into the net.
