Box Score
Building off the momentum from Saturday's big win over Westmont, Cougar men's soccer staged another big comeback to dispatch of Point Loma 2-1 in overtime.
CSUSM has now won three straight games, and after a 1-3 start has improved its record to 4-3. Point Loma falls to 1-3.
Tuesday's game followed a similar script to Saturday's, with the Cougars falling down early but rallying for a goal right before the half to deflate the opposing side. The Cougars controlled play throughout, putting 9 shots on goal to Point Loma's 1.
Still, Point Loma would strike first, with Austin Fares scoring in the 21st minute. As the half approached, it looked as if that lead would stand - but the Cougars had other ideas. In the 45th minute, Casey Wootan received a pass from Dan Sims, and knocked it over the keeper's head from 20 yards out to equalize the contest just 11 seconds before halftime.
The game would head into overtime, with CSUSM narrowly missing on multiple chances to take the lead in the second half. They would finally connect with just one minute left in the first overtime, as a Troy Skomra throw-in led eventually to a header by freshman Max Blumenshine that beat the keeper and ended the game. It's Blumenshine's fourth goal as a Cougar.
CSUSM will face off against Fresno Pacific on the road this Saturday.
