Emilio Esquibel of the baseball team has been named the CSUSM Male Student-Athlete of the Month for May 2015.

Esquibel, a junior right-hander from Vista, went 2-0 with a 2.82 ERA over 22 1/3 innings pitched while guiding the Cougars to their second Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference title.

Esquibel garnered A.I.I. Pitcher of the Year and All-A.I.I. First Team honors at the beginning of the month. At the A.I.I. Conference Championship tournament, Esquibel tossed a complete-game, one-hitter in the opening game before earning his program-record 12th win of the season after 5.1 innings of work in the A.I.I. winner-takes-all championship game.
