AS A SENIOR IN 2025

Competed in 13 meets.
Finished sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships with a shot put mark of 17.82 meters, becoming the team's first NCAA All-American.
Won the CCAA Championship in the shot put for the third consecutive year with a mark of 17.82 meters while taking bronze in the discus with a PR of 49.05 meters – the second-best mark in program history.
Broke his own school record in the shot put with a mark of 18.25 meters at the Franson Last Chance (May 8-10).

AS A JUNIOR IN 2024

Competed in 10 meets.
Won the CCAA Championship in the shot put for the second consecutive season with a mark of 16.95 meters while taking bronze in the discus throw with a mark of 46.47 meters - the third-best throw in program history.
Set a PR and broke his own school record in the shot put with a mark of 17.35 meters at the Franson Last Chance (May 9 -11).
Recorded the fourth-best hammer throw mark in team history at the Mangrum Invitational (March 22) with a distance of 51.40 meters.

AS A SOPHOMORE IN 2023

Competed in nine meets.
Won the CCAA Championship in the shot put with a distance of 16.11 meters – the second-best mark in program history.
Recorded the fourth-best discus mark in program history at 45.46 meters at the Chris Rinne Twilight (April 21).
Posted the sixth-longest hammer throw distance in team history with a mark of 49.29 meters at the Ben Brown Invite (March 10-11).

AS A FRESHMAN IN 2022

Competed in seven meets.
Finished fifth in the hammer throw at the CCAA Track & Field Championships (May 5-7) with a season-best distance of 48.30 meters – fifth best in program history.
Recorded the second-best shot put mark in school history at the Ross & Sharon Irwin Invitational at 14.51 meters.
Also posted fourth-best discus mark in team history at the same meet with a distance of 44.93 meters.
Finished sixth in the discus at the CCAA Championships with a distance of 44.22 meters.

HIGH SCHOOL

2020 graduate of Ukiah High School in Ukiah, California.
Competed for coach Coreena Christensen.
Received the Blanket Award, the highest achievement/MVP at his school, in track & field his sophomore and junior years.
Had a personal-best shot put throw of 54' 11" and earned third place.
Also played basketball and football.
Received the Captain's Award, All-League first team, All-League second team and the Blanket Award for football.
Received academic honors for basketball his freshman and sophomore years.

CLUB

Competed for As 1 Basketball (2016-17) and Ukiah Throws (2018-19).
Team earned first place In three of four basketball tournaments.
Earned All-American honors in track & field for USATFY.

PERSONAL

Born in Santa Rosa, California.
Hometown is Ukiah, California.
Son of Derek and Shawnée Laiwa-McKay.
Has two brothers, Dakota and Brandom.
Wants to go to medical school and become an anesthesiologist or physical therapist after graduating.
Enjoys hiking, walking in town, watching the sky at night and working out.
Favorite movies are The Green Mile, the Rush Hour trilogy and 1942.
Favorite athletes are Jim Thorpe and Larry Allen.
His mom is his greatest influence.
Roots for the San Francisco 49ers, Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants.
Majoring in Kinesiology.
