TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team registered two victories on Saturday in the Tournament of Champions, taking down Holy Names 4-2 before ending the day with a 5-4 win over Dominican.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Illana Valdez's fly out to center was dropped by HNU to give the Cougars their first run of the game in the sixth inning.
- LeClair followed with a double to left field to score Valdez to make it 2-0 in the sixth.
- In the seventh inning, Andrea Wood hit a liner to the right side for an RBI single and Kammy Fisher followed with a sacrifice fly to foul territory.
- The Hawks pushed two runs across in their last at-bat on a CSUSM error and a sacrifice fly.

- The Cougars improved to 9-18 overall while the Hawks dropped to 9-15.
- Carly Slack earned the win, keeping the Hawks hitless for 4.2 innings. She relinquished two unearned runs on three hits and struck out one.
- HNU's Chailey Stewart took the loss after giving up four runs (two earned) on eight hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- A fielder's choice bunt put Dominican up 1-0 in the opening frame.
- LeClair knocked in an RBI single to even the game at 1-1 before pinch hitter Smith took her first pitch to deep left center for a double to drive in three runs and make it 4-1. Â
- The Penguins cut CSUSM's lead to 4-3 in the fourth on Alexis Chinchilla's RBI double and Mady Christensen's RBI single.
- Wood crushed a line drive to left center as Ronni Silas scored to make it a 5-3 ballgame in the top of the fifth.
- Dominican added another run in the bottom of the seventh on a ground out by Alyssa Ramirez.

- The Cougars move up to 10-18 on the year while the Penguins fall to 6-18.
- Caitlin Vinyard collected her second win of the weekend, entering the game in relief and allowing only one run on two hits.
