TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team dropped an 8-4 decision to Saint Martin's in the Cougars' Tournament of Champions finale on Saturday in Turlock.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Wood crushed a two-out two-RBI double to center to give CSUSM a 2-0 lead in the opening frame.
• The Saints put together five unearned runs on five hits and two CSUSM errors in the fourth.
• The Cougars cut their deficit to 5-4 in the fifth with Silas and Forstie both scoring on ground outs after reaching on a bunt single and a double to right, respectively.
• SMU answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth.

 
QUICK HITS

• The Cougars fall to 10-19 on the season while the Saints move up to 14-15.
• Ellie Smith took the loss, giving up five runs (one earned) on six hits and striking out four batters in 3.2 innings.
• Brandi Schoessler of SMU collected the win in relief after tossing 5.1 innings, relinquishing two runs on seven hits and striking out five.
