SAN FRANCISCO – The Cal State San Marcos softball team recorded a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader sweep against Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon at San Francisco State Softball Stadium. Final scores were 3-2 and 9-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the second on an inside-the-park home run.
- Wood's RBI double to right center evened the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning.
- East Bay retook the lead in the bottom of the frame on a double followed by a pair of bunts.
- Fisher crushed a two-run homer to dead center to put the Cougars back on top at 3-2 in the fifth.

- With the victory, the Cougars (2-5, 1-4 CCAA) earned their first conference win of the season while CSUEB (2-4, 0-1 CCAA) falls in its CCAA opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the opening frame on a passed ball.
- CSUSM answered in the third inning with Nikki Andelin's two-RBI single to left to make it 2-1 Cougars.
- The Cougars posted five runs to take a 7-1 lead in the top of the fourth on Andrea Wood's RBI single, a sacrifice fly by Valdez, a Forstie two-RBI double and an RBI-ground out by Andelin. Â
- A sacrifice fly by Andelin in the sixth extended CSUSM's lead to 8-1.
- Valdez knocked in CSUSM's final run in the top of the seventh to make it 9-1.
- Emilie Portesi crushed a two-out three-run homer in the bottom of the frame before Vinyard closed the game with a pop-up.
