TUCSON, Ariz. – Sophomore
Jaime Jacob earned her third consecutive medalist honors to lead the Cal State San Marcos women's golf team to a third place finish at the West Texas Desert Invitational at The Lodge at Ventana Canyon on Tuesday afternoon. The Cougars carded a 308 in the final round to finish the tournament with a team score of 31-over 607.
Jacob, the only golfer to finish below par, matched her round score yesterday with a 71 to conclude the two day tournament with a 2-under 142. She finished three-strokes ahead of second place Maria Regina Gonzalez of St. Mary's (TX). Jacob tallied seven birdies over the 36-hole tournament.
Freshman
Claire Hogle broke into the top ten, tying for ninth with a 7-over 151. Junior
Sarah Garcia followed with an 8-over 152 and tied for 15th.
Senior
Christina Trujillo tied for 46th with a 18-over 162 and sophomore
Savannah Magallon tied for 70th with a 27-over 171.
Host West Texas A&M and St. Mary's tied for first with team scores of 24-over 600.
Next up for the Cougars is the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Championships on April 15-18. It will be the conference's 13th championship, as Sonoma State will host the inaugural event at the Sonoma Golf Club.
The Conference team and individual champions shall be determined after 54 holes of play, with 18-hole rounds each of the three consecutive days of competition beginning on Monday, April 16. Each team will be seeded based on Golfstat national rankings with competitors placed in threesomes, and the field will be reseeded after the first round of play.
