PALM DESERT, Calif. – Sophomore
Jaime Jacob clinched her second consecutive tournament win on Friday afternoon, leading the Cal State San Marcos women's golf team to a second place finish at the Augustana College Spring Fling at Classic Club.
Jacob shot a clean front nine to card a 75 in Friday's round and finish with a 4-over 148, two strokes better than second place Paxton DeHaven of University of Indianapolis. Jacob concluded the two-day event with a tourney-best 28 pars.
As a team, CSUSM shot a 37-over 613 (306-307) and finished seven strokes behind tournament winner University of Indianapolis (606, +30). St. Edwards placed third, followed by Tarleton State (633, +57) and Augustana (649, +73).
Sophomore
Savannah Magallon remained in a three-way tie for third with a 7-over 151 (76-75). Junior
Sarah Garcia shared a sixth-place finish with two other golfers after finishing the two-day tournament with a 10-over 154 (77-77).
Junior
Bergen Benedict tied for 19th with identical rounds of 80 (160, +16). Freshman
Claire Hogle improved on her first round score of 89 with an 80 on Friday to tie for 35th (169, +25).
The Cougars have placed in the top three in all four of their spring tournaments so far. CSUSM returns to the links on April 2-3 at the West Texas A&M Desert Invitational.
