Jacob Shares Individual Title; CSUSM Wins 2018 PLNU Reach

SAN DIEGO – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team took home the team title on Tuesday after winning the 2018 Point Loma Reach. This was the Cougars' first tournament of the 2018 spring season.
 
CSUSM carded a 14-over 302 on day two and ended with a two-round total of 24-over 600, three strokes ahead of second place Cal Baptist (603, +27). Sonoma State (631, +55), Dixie State (635, +59) and Victoria (B.C.) (645, +69) rounded out the top five.
 
Sophomore Jaime Jacob completed the tournament tied for first to capture her first individual title of 2018 after shooting 73 on back-to-back days for a two-round score of 2-over 146. She led the tournament in par 4 scoring at 2-under and finished tied for second in birdies (6) and pars (25).
 
Moving up three spots on the leaderboard, junior Bergen Benedict concluded the tournament in fourth place after carding a 4-over 148 (76-72) while freshman Claire Hogle rounded out the top-five with a 7-over 151 (74-77) including a tournament-leading seven birdies.
 
Junior Sarah Garcia finished in a five-way tie for 15th place with a score of 14-over 158 (78-80) while sophomore Savannah Magallon (159, +15) finished tied for 20th.
 
Sophomore Emily Lichty, competing as an individual, took 10th place with an 11-over 155. Also competing as an individual senior Christina Trujillo notched a tie (166, +22) concluded the tournament tied for 10th and 35th, respectively.
 
Dixie State's Katie Ford tied with Jacob for the individual title after carding a 2-over 146 (71-75) and had the lowest par 3 scoring at 1-under.
 
The Cougars return to action later this month when they compete in the California Baptist Invitational at Goose Creek Golf Club on Feb. 25-26.
