JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team concluded its second tournament of the spring season on Tuesday with a second-place finish at the California Baptist Lancer Golf Joust held at the Goose Creek Golf Club.
CSUSM posted the lowest second round score of the day with an 8-over 297 to finish with a two-round total of 21-over 597. Host CBU took home the team title after recording a 15-over 591. Academy of Art (603, + 27) placed third, while Tarleton State (613, +37) and Northeastern State (618, +42) rounded out the top five.
Junior
Bergen Benedict carded a 1-over 73 for consecutive rounds to finish tied for first with CBU's Yifei Wang with a two-round total of 2-over 146. The individual title came down to a playoff hole. Wang birdied the par-5 18 hole while Benedict parred it.
Sophomore
Jaime Jacob finished in a three-way tie for ninth place after recording a 6-over 150. Classmate
Savannah Magallon (150, +6) jumped nine spots in round two to join Jacob in a tie for ninth.
Also improving her score from yesterday, junior
Sarah Garcia (151, +7) moved up six spots on the leaderboard with a 2-over 74 on Tuesday to place in a four-way tie for 12th place. Freshman
Claire Hogle tied for 51st with a 17-over 161 to round out the scores for CSUSM.
Next up for CSUSM is the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay at the Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif. on March 5-6.
