SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior women's golfer Sarah Garcia and senior men's soccer player David Martin have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month presented by The Quad for September 2018.
 
The CSUSM Student-Athletes of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
 
Garcia began her 2018-19 season on a strong note by winning the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate. She carded a 68 in the final round to finish with a 4-under 140 and led CSUSM to its second consecutive WNMU Fall Intercollegiate team title. As a result of her performance, she was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Golfer of the Week for the third time in her career.
 
Martin led men's soccer with eight points and four goals while posting game-winning goals in back-to-back matches against Biola and Montana State Billings. His two game-winning goals were the most in the CCAA for the month of September and tied for the 33rd-most nationally.
 
Garcia and the rest of the women's golf team will swing back into action on Oct. 22-23 at the Skyhawk Intercollegiate in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while Martin and the men's soccer team will host No. 9 UC San Diego on Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
