SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos Athletics and CSUSM Office of Alumni Engagement paired up to host the Second-Annual Life After The Game event on Wednesday evening on campus.
Melissa Alvarez (Softball '22), Randy Erman (Men's Track & Field '01), Devyn Kelley (Women's Soccer '23) and Hayden Weir (Baseball '17) shared their insights and advice to help navigate current student-athletes to post-graduation success.
"It was such a joy to see and hear from our alumni student-athletes on Wednesday as they shared their experiences of life after sports with our current student-athletes," said CSUSM Director of Athletics
Morod Shah. "To see them thriving in their careers is so special, and being willing to pay it forward by sharing their story was so impactful for our students."
"The Life After The Game event was a wonderful opportunity to speak on a topic that I am very passionate about," Kelley said. "As a fairly recent retired student-athlete, it is a topic close to my heart. I loved getting to share my experiences as a part of the CSUSM women's soccer team, while also sharing some of the advice I have about what it looks like to be on the other side of athletics. The transition out of college sports is a hard one and should be a conversation for students who are almost done. Thankfully, the experiences I had in sports at CSUSM shaped me into who I am today and will continue to greatly impact my life."
"I'd like to give a huge thank you to the former CSUSM student-athletes who took time out of their day to come share their experiences with me and other current student-athletes," said CSUSMÂ softball's Marissa Morales. "Hearing about life after the game reassured me that our sport is only one part of who we are and that there's so much more to life beyond it."
CSUSM Athletics would like to extend a special thank you to Lori Brockett, CSUSM's Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and University Events, for all her assistance with this event.Â
