SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Jillian Albayati of softball and Jason Wells of men's outdoor track & field have been named the Cal State San Marcos Student-Athletes of the Month for February 2026.
 
The CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month awards are determined through a vote of all Department of Athletics coaches, administrators and staff. Each in-season program nominates a student-athlete to be considered for the award each month.
 
Albayati led the Cougars with a .514 batting average, 25 RBIs, eight runs, three doubles, five home runs, 18 hits, 36 total bases, a .605 on-base percentage and a 1.029 slugging percentage for the month while recording a 15-game hitting streak. The Anaheim native was named the CCAA Player of the Week for Feb. 2-8 for the second consecutive week. In the national rankings, Albayati is second in RBIs (33), fourth in batting average (.551), fifth in RBIs per game (1.94) and eighth in slugging percentage (1.041).
 
Wells earned the season's first CCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week Award after running the second-fastest 200-meter time in program history at 21.31 seconds at the Kamaka Open. The Luling native then helped break the CSUSM record in the 4x100-meter relay with an NCAA Division II provisional time of 40.42 seconds at the Rossi Relays – the best time in the nation to date. Wells and his relay team were subsequently named the CCAA Men's Track Athletes of the Week for the performance.
 
This is the second CSUSM Student-Athlete of the Month honor for Albayati and first for Wells.
