DURANGO, Colo. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the season at the Skyhawk West Regional Preview with a third place finish following Tuesday's final round at the Hillcrest Golf Club.
CSUSM posted a 19-over 303 on Tuesday and finished with a two-round total of 36-over 604, just two shots behind second place West Texas A&M (602, +34). Dallas Baptist took home the team title after recording a 18-over 586. Cal State Monterey Bay took fourth with a 40-over 608, while Simon Fraser (611, +43) and Rogers State (611, +43) rounded out the top five.
Junior
Sarah Garcia was CSUSM's top golfer, tying for ninth place with a 7-over 149. She shot even on the front nine including a birdie on the eighth hole.
Sophomore
Jaime Jacob jumped 11 spots in round two and finished tied for 13th overall after turning in a 8-over 150 and junior
Bergen Benedict tied for 40th with a 13-over 155.
Sophomore
Savannah Magallon tied for 60th with a 16-over 158 while junior
Joan Park finished tied for 65th with 17-over 159 to round out the scores for CSUSM.
Dallas Baptist Addison Mitchell ran away with the individual medalists honors after carding 1-over 143 (69-74) for the tournament.
Next up for CSUSM is the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Monday Sept. 25 and Tuesday Sept. 26 at the Golf Club Estrella in Goodyear, AZ.
