CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team placed sixth in the 2017 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Golf Championships at Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms on the par-71, 6,826-yard Zaharias Course. The Cougars shot a final round of 303 to finish at 45-over 897.
No. 23 Chico State held on to the top spot despite carding a 302 in the final 18 holes to finish with a 31-over 883 and defeated Stanislaus State (884, +32) by one stroke. Cal State East Bay took third after carding a 54-hole total 38-over 890, followed by Cal State Monterey Bay (892, +40) and Sonoma State (895, +43).
Freshman
Ryan Bisharat shot a 76 in the final round to finish with a 7-over 220 and a share of sixth place, just missing the All-Tournament Team in his first collegiate conference championship.
Joining him in the top 10 was junior
Braeden Koran, whose 9-over 222 tied him for ninth place.
Junior
Chris Tuulik shot CSUSM's best round on Tuesday, carding a 73 to conclude the tournament tied for 12 with a 10-over 223.
Freshman
Ben Hume tied for 32nd with a 19-over 232 and junior
Shohei Yamawaki placed 45th with a 36-over 249.
Chico State's Kelley Sullivan was the CCAA individual medalist after carding a 1-over 214.
CSUSM is not eligible for the CCAA medal/match play part of the tournament due stipulations set forth in its NCAA Division II Provisional Membership status. CSUSM is slated to be ready for postseason play in 2017-18 if full NCAA Division II membership status is granted this summer.
