CHULA VISTA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team is in the thick of it at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic hosted by San Diego State and the University of San Diego at San Diego Country Club. CSUSM (190-302 – 592) is in sixth place at 16-over, 18 back of leaders Texas (285-289 – 574, -2) and Arizona State (287-287 – 574, -2).
The 92-player competition features 13 NCAA Division I programs and two NCAA Division II institutions, UC San Diego and CSUSM.
Dylan Healey's 4-under 68 put the senior in a one-shot lead after the opening round, and the Cougars held the team lead midway through the back nine of their opening round. CSUSM's 290 in the opening round also featured
Dale Smith's 2-under 70 and a pair of 76's from
Ryan Odom and
Aaron Bronis.
The second go-around was a bit tougher for the Cougars. Odom had a 74, Healey carded a 75, Bronis came in with a 76 and Smith rounded out the scoring with a 77.
Healey sits in a tie for fifth at 1-under 143, four back of Texas' Beau Hossler. The lefty played the par-5's 6-under par and his nine birdies were second-most in the field.
Smith is tied for 17
th at 3-over 147 and Odom is tied for 32
nd at 6-over 150.
