CPP Breakdown: CPP opened CCAA play with a 2-1 series victory at San Francisco State before dropping a three-game series to Sonoma State last weekend. The Broncos pitching staff has the lowest ERA (2.71) in the CCAA and ranks 14th in the NCAA Division II statistics. CPP ranks ninth in the nation with 42 stolen bases.
Previous Weekend RecapFor the second consecutive series, the Cougars won the opening game before dropping the next three. It was a pitching duel on both ends of Saturday's doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino. Behind the pitching of
Cameron MacKenzie, the Cougars took game one 1-0. CSUSM fell 2-0 to the Coyotes in game two. In San Marcos on Sunday, the Cougars suffered a twinbill sweep by scores of 8-6 and 11-5.

New Season, New SurroundingsThe Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition and California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play in 2016 after playing its first nine seasons in the NAIA. CSUSM made three postseason appearances during its time in the NAIA.

Dennis Pugh enters his tenth season at the helm of the Cougars in 2016. Pugh has accumulated a 254-143-2 on field record while grooming 29 all-conference selections. Prior to his time at CSUSM, Pugh spent 27 years as the head baseball coach at Mission Bay High School in Pacific Beach.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2016 and 2017.
