Last Meeting vs. UCSD: L, 73-60 (November 14, 2015). In their first regular season game of 2015-16, the Cougars started off hot with a 21-13 lead over the Tritons after the first quarter. UCSD wasted no time responding by outscoring CSUSM 25-9 to take at 38-30 lead into the break. The Tritons defeated the Cougars in every category in the second half to clinch the victory.
UCSD Breakdown: The Tritons clinched a first-round home contest in the CCAA Tournament last weekend. UCSD has won six consecutive games capped by a 88-81 overtime victory over Stanislaus State last Saturday. Jamie Katuna and Farrah Shokoor both rank in the top 5 in the CCAA in points per game, averaging 17.8 and 15.1, respectively.
Cal State San Bernardino PreviewAll-time vs. CSUSB: 1-0
Last Meeting vs. CSUSB: W, 46-43 (Nov. 26, 2011). This victory was CSUSM's first in program history against a CCAA team while still competing as a NAIA school. Sidney Dobner collected 22 points and Danielle Cooper pulled down 17 rebounds in the contest.
CSUSB State Breakdown: The Coyotes are fighting to host the first round of the CCAA Tournament, just 1.5 games behind fourth place Stanislaus State. CSUSB will host Sonoma State and San Francisco State in its final two games of regular season.
The Renee Jimenez FileRenee Jimenez took the helm of the CSUSM women's basketball program on May 22, 2015. She brings a wealth of knowledge as a head coach in the CCAA, compiling a 125-71 record in the past seven seasons. Jimenez spent the last two seasons at Cal State San Bernardino (2013-15) after a five-year stint at Cal State Monterey Bay (2008-13).
Rules Are A Changing in 2015-16There are major changes in women's basketball this season. Games will now consist of four 10-minute quarters rather than two 20-minute halves. Teams will also now be awarded two free throws for each common foul beginning with the fifth team foul in each quarter.
New ConferenceCal State San Marcos is in its first season competing in the
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The CCAA is made up of 12 CSU institutions and UC San Diego. The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II leagues in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other NCAA Division II conference.
New TerritoryAfter four seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015-16. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
