SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Senior
Clinton Perez's two-run homer was not enough as the Cal State San Marcos baseball team fell 5-2 to visiting San Diego Christian in nonconference action on Tuesday afternoon at CSUSM Baseball Field.
The Cougars were not able to convert their 10 hits into more than two runs on the day.
CSUSM and SDC both exit the contest with a 6-4 record.
Senior
Clinton Perez went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Senior
Jon Putnam and junior
Hudson Bilodeau also collected two hits in the game.
San Diego Christian jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on Justin Distefano's single up the middle.
After five scoreless innings, CSUSM was finally able to get on the board. Senior
Brandon Bentson hit a one-out single and Perez followed with his second home run of the season, a blast over right field wall, to put CSUSM up 2-1.
CSUSM did not get to enjoy the lead for long as SDC posted four runs in the top of the seventh. After S Haviar hit a two-out RBI single to tie the game, Distefano crushed a three-run homer to right.
Junior
Alex Wall took the loss in relief for
Emilio Esquibel who posted four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
SDC's Codi Scanlon (2-1) took home the win after just 1 1/3 innings on the hill.
CSUSM concludes its nonconference schedule on Friday when the Cougars host La Sierra in a twinbill beginning at 11 a.m.
