KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Dylan Healey and
Ryan Odom of the Cal State San Marcos men's golf team have been announced as 2015 NAIA All-Americans, the NAIA-Men's Golf Coaches Association All-America Committee announced Tuesday. A total of 45 student-athletes were honored with 15 individuals being named to each of the three teams.
Healey was named to the First Team while Odom was tabbed a Second Team selection. It is a first-time honor for Healey, who becomes the fourth player in program history to be named to the First Team.
Odom becomes the first CSUSM golfer in program history to be named All-America three times. As a freshman in 2013, Odom was named to the Second Team. Last season, as a sophomore, Odom was honored on the First Team.
Healey, a junior from Franklin, Tenn., won the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference individual title with a total of 8-under-208 (66-69-73) – the only CSUSM player to have ever accomplished the feat.
He led the Cougars with a 72.53 scoring average – the lowest in program history – while posting a team-high six rounds in the 60's and 18 scores of par or better.
He shot 4-under 212 at the Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) Invite to earn medalist honors in his second tournament as a Cougar on Sept. 28-29, and went on to finish in the top-three in six more competitions throughout the season. In the second round of the CSUSM Fall Classic on Nov. 3, Healey set a school record with a score of 8-under 64.
Odom, a junior from Corona, averaged 73.78 strokes per round this season, posting 12 scores of par of better. He won the Cougars' first tournament of the season, the California State Intercollegiate on Sept. 22-23, shooting 71-69-69 for a total of 7-under 209.
He tied for second at the Embry-Riddle Invite and went on to post six top-10 finishes throughout the year.
Odom had been just one of three CSUSM players to be named All-America twice (Scott Conway, 2007 & 2008; Rob Keller, 2001 & 2004).
Healey and Odom, along with teammate
Scott Shefflette, were honored as NAIA PING All-West Region honorees by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) at the conclusion of the NAIA National Championships. Healey earned NAIA PING All-America honors from the GCAA, as well.
The Cougars took seventh place overall in their final appearance at the NAIA National Championship. In 2014-15, CSUSM won its second-ever A.I.I. Conference title, took home the hardware in three tournaments total, and finished runner-up in five others.
