The Cougars registered 8-over par 296, the only team to break 300 in the final go-around. After starting the day in fifth place, CSUSM leapfrogged Chico State, Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State to finish second behind Cal State Monterey Bay.

CSUSM completed the 18-team tournament in 31-over 895 (297-302-296), 15 behind CSUMB (288-288-304 – 880, +16), which held a 20-shot lead heading into Tuesday. Chico took third (300-296-304 - 900, +36) and CSUEB took fourth (297-301-303 – 901, +37), while SSU dropped to seventh (298-300-318 – 916, +52).

Healey had two birdies and a bogey for a 1-under 71. He improved in each round during the tournament and placed third overall at 4-over 220 (75-74-71). It marked his third top-10 finish of the spring season.

The Invite featured 17 NCAA Division II teams, in addition to the NAIA No. 5-ranked Cougars. Chico State and CSUMB are ranked No. 5 and No. 7 in NCAA Division II, respectively, and six of the other teams in the field are currently ranked in the top-10 of the NCAA DII West Region – (5) Sonoma State, (6) Hawaii Hilo, (7) CSUS, (8) Western Washington, (9) Dominican and (10) CSUEB.

All nine squads from the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) competed; CSUSM beat eight of them. The Cougars will play a CCAA schedule starting in fall 2015 as a part of NCAA Division II Candidacy Year 2, the second year of the athletic department's three-year transition into full NCAA Division II membership.

Dale Smith also showed steady improvement, coming in with a 1-over 73 after a first-round 78 and a 75 in round two. He tied for 18th at 10-over 226.

Ryan Odom opened the day in sixth place after a pair of 73's on day one, but dropped into a tie for eighth after a 5-over 77. He finished at 7-over 223 (+7). It also marked his third top-10 finish of the spring season.

With its regular-season schedule now complete, CSUSM will look forward to recapturing the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference title, Apr. 26-27 in Victoria, Texas. The Cougars won the 2013 edition in Victoria, the first and only conference title in program history.
