Cougars Wrap Up Eight-Game Homestand

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cougars conclude an eight-game homestand with a single game Tuesday against San Diego Christian and a three-game series against University of Sioux Falls this weekend.

San Diego Christian Preview
All-time vs. SDCC: 23-12
Last Meeting: W, 7-0 (Feb. 4, 2015). Senior left-hander Kyle Montiel threw five innings of three-hit scoreless baseball and four relievers (Cameron MacKenzie, Jordan Kunz, Emilio Esquibel and Justin Hertzmann) gave up three combined hits in the final four innings.  Senior Denny Vigo led the Cougar offense, going 3-for-4 with two doubles.
SDCC Breakdown: After going 3-17 in the first 20 games of the season, the Hawks have put together a 4-2 record in the last two weeks including a three-game series win over Arizona Christian last weekend.

University of Sioux Falls Preview
All-Time vs. USF: 12-4
Last Series: W, 3-1 (March 16-17, 2014). The Cougars outscored USF 33-13 in the four-game series last season that included a 9-0 shutout. Brandon Bentson went 7-for-14 with five runs and two RBIs against USF. 
USF Breakdown: USF opened the season dropping its first seven games before turning on the offense with a 18-3 win over William Jewell on Sunday, March 8. Freshman outfielder Matthew Minnick earned Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Baseball Player of the Week after hitting .615 last week.  
 
Notes
Vigo has been Mr. Consistent in 2015 with a 21-game streak of reaching base safely … Ray Patchen's home run against Bethesda last weekend raises CSUSM's total to eight on the year… Stefan Miladinovich has had 11 multi-hit games and six multi-RBI games this season.

The Cougars lead the nation with 62 doubles with senior Denny Vigo leading the charge with a nation-best 11 doubles.  Here is a list of other significant rankings…

Who We Are
CSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year in the NAIA.
