SAN DIEGO – Another Cougar earned a spot in the NAIA National Championships for the Cal State San Marcos track & field teams and five Cougars posted top-three finishes at the 37
th Annual Aztec Invitational on Friday at the Aztrak at SDSU Sports Deck.
Charlotte Kuzminsky became the eighth Cougar to post an "A" standard time to qualify for nationals, registering a personal-best 4:37.84 in the 1500m.
Salena Gallardo posted a "B" standard time in the 1500m, improving her personal-best time by more than twelve seconds at 4:42.3.
Cristen Lane finished with a time of 4:42.86, also a personal-best, .36 seconds shy of the "B" standard marker.
On the men's side in the 1500m,
Steven Ing posted a personal-best and "B" standard time of 3:54.59. Ing has already qualified for nationals with an "A" standard time in the 5000m at the Oxy Distance Festival ealier this month. Five Cougars have posted "B" standard times this season.
Freshman
Elizabeth Buckle won the 800m with a personal-best of 2:18.32, her first win as a Cougar. Gallardo also recorded her second personal-best on the day with a time of 2:20.26 to finish fifth.
Brittany Hollie continued her stellar season, placing in third in the 100-meter hurdles while running her best time of the season at 14.65.
Justin Washington took second in the 800m, recording a personal-best with a time of 1:53.54.
Alex Gronotte finished in fourth place, setting a personal-best time of 1:55.63.
Jordan Lucas came close to posting "B" standard scores in both of his events. The freshman finished in second in the 100m with a time of 10.84 and followed it up with a 200m time of 22.17, which was good for a seventh place finish.
Frederik Jahr earned a second place finish in the high jump with a leap of 2.0m, matching his season-best performance.
The Cougars return to the track April 3-4 to take part in UC San Diego's
California Collegiate Invitational at
Triton Track & Field Stadium.
