CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team fired a second-round 8-under 280 and moved into a second place at the 15-team InterWest Wildcat Classic on Monday afternoon at Butte Creek Country Club. The competition is CSUSM's first as a NCAA Division II squad and a member of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
Dylan Healey posted 6-under 66 and
Scott Shefflette had a 5-under 67 to the lead the Cougars to the best round of the afternoon session. CSUSM (298-280 – 578, +2) trails leader and host Chico State (282-292 – 574, -2) by four strokes heading into Tuesday's final round.
Healey (72-66) shot 5-under 31 on the front nine of his second round and finished with 12 birdies on the entire day, the most in the field. He shares the lead at -6 along with Chris Crisologo of Simon Fraser who went 69-69.
Shefflette played the front nine in 4-under and finished with seven birdies during his second round. He is in solo eighth place at 1-under 143 (76-67).
Ryan Odom went 75-74 and is tied for 25
th at 5-over 149.
TJ Masters followed a 75 with a 76 and is 7-over at 151.
Christian Nicolini improved by 11 strokes in his second go-around with a 73 after a first-round 84.
The teams tee-off tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
