Cougar Alumn Brian Walker Added to Men’s Golf Staff

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – 2013 Cal State San Marcos alumn Brian Walker has joined the Cougar men's golf coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach Greg Hutton announced Wednesday.

"I am excited to have Brian come back to the program as a coach," said Hutton. "Brian was one of the hardest working players I have ever coached. His attitude was always positive and he was a great team guy."

Walker, who competed for the Cougars from 2011-13, returns to San Marcos after serving as a golf instructor at the Central Coast Golf Academy in Arroyo Grande, Calif. over the past year.

As a senior, Walker helped the Cougars take third place overall at the NAIA National Championships – the program's highest finish ever. That 2012-13 team set a program record for scoring average, won three tournaments and captured its first-ever Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference title.

"I am excited to be returning to CSUSM as an assistant coach because I played on the team as a student an we came close to winning a national championship," said Walker. "I think it's time we win one, and I'd love to be a part of it."

Walker graduated from CSUSM with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Over two seasons competing for the Cougars, Walker averaged 77.72 strokes in eight tournaments and 25 rounds.
