Final ResultsLINCOLN, Neb. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team shot 319 for the second day in a row and finished 14
th at the NAIA National Championships on Friday at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club.
CSUSM began the day in 13
th, but dropped a slot with a four-round total of 140-over-par 1,292. The Cougars went 336-318-319-319.
Oklahoma City took home its second-straight national championship by beating SCAD Savannah in a one-hole playoff. Both teams finished at 57-over-par 1,209. Alazne Urizar of SCAD Savannah earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par total.
Vanessa Chap fired a 77,
Lisa Copeland and
Victoria Smith each shot 80, and
Christina Trujillo recorded an 82 in the final round.
Taylor Coover's 84 was tossed out.
Chap tied for 34
th in the individual standings at 26-over-par 314, her second straight top-50 finish at the national tournament. She posted three rounds of 79 before going 37-40 on Friday.
Smith tied for 51
st with a total of 36-over-par 324. After struggling a bit in the opening round with an 86, Smith finished 80-78-80.
Trujillo put together consistent scores of 81-83-82-82 to place 57
th at 40-0ver-par 328.
Coover (90-82-81-84) tied for 72
nd at 49-over-par 337.
Copeland, CSUSM's lone senior, did not figure into the individual standings by virtue of a first-round disqualification for a non-conforming wedge. It was unfortunate because she bounced back with rounds of 77-81-80, all scoring numbers for the Cougars. If her first-round counted, Copeland would have finished with a total of 33-over-par 321.
