Final ResultsBREMERTON, Wash. – The No. 13 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team shaved 13 strokes off its first-round total, but the Cougars could not move up the leaderboard as they took third place in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon at the Cascade Course at Gold Mountain Golf Club.
The Cougars shot 32-over-par 316 in the second round to finish with a two-day total of 77-over-par 645 (329-316). No. 4 British Columbia won the conference title at 42-over-par 610 (301-309). No. 10 University of Victoria was runner up at 73-over-par 641 (326-315).
Christina Trujillo matched two other players with the low round of the day, firing a 2-over-par 74 on her way to a runner-up finish at 9-over-par 151. Trujillo had one birdie to go along with four bogeys.
Heather Shake of Houston-Victoria took home the individual title at 7-over-par 149. Trujillo tied with Casara Hong of UBC for runner-up.
Vanessa Chap was the only other Cougar to stay below 80, posting 8-over-par 79. She'd finish in a tie for ninth at 19-over-par 161 (82-79).
Taylor Coover carded an 81, going out in 38 and in in 43. Coover tied for 14
th at 25-over-par 167 (86-81).
Lisa Copeland (85-82) and
Victoria Smith (85-82) each shot 82 in their respective final rounds and joined Coover at 167 for the tournament.
The Cougars will now await their postseason fate and hope for an at-large berth into May 20-23's NAIA Women's Golf National Championship at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb.
