Box Score MARIETTA, Ga. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team held Northern New Mexico to 26.2 percent shooting in a 62-52 victory in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference semifinals on Saturday afternoon at the Eagles' Nest.
No. 2-seed CSUSM (14-17) now has a bout with top-seeded Lindenwood-Belleville (21-10) on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for an automatic berth in the NAIA Tournament.
Cassie Damyanovich led CSUSM with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Heather Thompson had a double-double with 10 rebounds and 16 boards.
Sherika Miller added 10 points and six assists. Alex Alvarado contributed nine points and a game-high six assists.
The Cougars would lead by as many as 19 in the second stanza and maintain a 15-point advantage for most of the half. NNMC cut the lead to seven, but CSUSM answered on back-to-back trips to stretch the lead back to 11.
CSUSM shot 40 percent for the game, 37 percent in the second half. They outrebounded NNMC, 52-38.
Brianna Higgins came in off the bench to go 4-of-5 from the field, finishing with nine points and five rebounds.
Lindenwood survived a close overtime game with No. 5-seed West Virginia Tech, 86-80.
