SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team received the No. 2-seed for the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Women's Division I Basketball Tournament this weekend in Georgia.

Due to being the No. 2 seed, the Cougars will also receive a bye for Friday's opening round. The Cougars will face the winner of third-seeded Morris or sixth-seeded Northern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon with a trip to the title game on the line. On the other side of the bracket is No. 1 Lindenwood-Belleville (20-10), who will face the winner of No. 4 Allen (9-15) and No. 5 West Virginia Tech (10-14) in the semifinals. CSUSM topped NNMC earlier this season on Feb. 7,

A.I.I. Tournament History
The Cougars will be making their third consecutive appearance at the A.I.I. Tournament. The Cougars beat Morris in the quarterfinals last season before falling to Robert Morris in the semifinals. In CSUSM's first season as a program in 2011-12, the Cougars won the 2012 A.I.I. Division II title with back-to-back wins over Indiana Northwest and Valley City State. The Cougars are 3-1 all-time at the conference's postseason tournament.
Trending Upwards
The Cougars have been trending upwards since dropping four of five between Jan. 11 and Feb. 5. Since Feb. 7, CSUSM has won four of its last five games, its most successful five-game stretch of the season.

Heather Thompson is averaging a double-double with 11.8 points and 11 rebounds per game.Â
