Final Results
PRIMM, Nev. – The No. 11 Cal State San Marcos women's golf team improved by five strokes in the final round of the Battle at Primm to take third place with a two-round total of 59-over-par 635 on Tuesday afternoon at Primm Valley Golf Course.
CSUSM shot 32-over-par 320 in the opening round before closing with a 17-over-par 315. No. 6 Northwood (Fla.) took the title at 33-over-par 609 (307-302). No. 8 Victoria (B.C.) finished runner up (329-304-633, +57).
Vanessa Chap, who entered the day leading the tournament by one stroke, posted a 5-over-par 77. She wound up four strokes back in second place at 6-over-par 150 (73-77) behind medalist Micaela Johansson of Northwood. Johansson followed a first-round 77 with a 3-under 69 to finish at 2-over-par 146.
Victoria Smith matched Chap's 77.
Taylor Coover shot 80 while
Lisa Copeland and Christian Trujillo each carded 81's.
Smith (82-77) and Coover (79-80) tied for 15
th at 15-over-par 159. Copeland (86-81-167, +23) tied for 27
th and Trujillo (87-81-168,+24) tied for 29
th.
The Cougars close out their regular season schedule next week at the Western New Mexico Invitational at Coldwater Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz.
CSUSM will then have about a month off before competing in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Championships April 27-28 in Bremerton, Wash.
