Who We AreCSUSM is an NAIA Division I institution which competes in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference. CSUSM was accepted into NCAA Division II Candidacy Year One and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) during the summer and is currently going through a three-year transition phase in order to gain full NCAA DII status for the 2017-18 season. The 2014-15 season will be the school's final year in the NAIA.
Thanksgiving Classic PreviewThe Cougars will get a taste of the future this weekend, facing two NCAA Division II teams that are part of the West Region. Last season, Dixie State finished seventh in the PacWest Conference while Alaska Fairbanks tied for eighth in the Greater Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC). Dixie State and Alaska Fairbanks will play their season opener against each other on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. in St. George, Utah.

Dixie State Breakdown: The Red Storm announced Jenny Thigpin as the new interim head coach after the firing of one-year head coach Catherria Turner on Nov. 5. Thigpin has her work cut out for her with eight new faces this season. With the graduation of top scorer Haley Holmstead, the Red Storm will look to Kaylah Miller (13.5 ppg, 91 assists) to lead the team.

Heather Thompson ranks sixth in the nation with 7.7 defensive rebounds per game. As a team, the Cougars are No. 35 in blocks per game (2.7) and No. 39 in field goals defense (.365).
