OCEANSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's golf team took time Sunday afternoon to give back to a golf course that has provided so much for the program during its 16-year history. The Cougars volunteered to help clean up Goat Hill Park, formerly Center City Golf Course, as a part of the golf course's rebuilding effort.

Goat Hill Park is the home of the North Country Junior Golf Association (NCJGA). The NCJGA hosts over 25 tournaments throughout the year and provides golf instruction via clinics, summer camps and on-course events for youth players in the area.

In addition, Goat Hill has historically been a practice facility for the men's and women's golf teams, providing opportunities for our players to hone their skills and work on their game.

The Cougars cleaned up the driveway area, parking lot, around the golf shop, and even performed some maintenance out on the course. CSUSM players were more than happy to pull weeds, move debris, trim trees, sweep, move dirt and pile up shrubbery.

"It feels great to give back to a course that does so much for the local youth golf community," said CSUSM head coach Greg Hutton. "Goat Hill's always been a great place for our players to come practice, so we're happy to help anyway we can."

Goat Hill Park, formerly Center City GC, was the first golf course in San Diego county. The course was redesigned in the early 90's by Ludwig Keehn and became known as "Goat Hill" to locals.

Goat Hill thrived until Keehn passed away. Since that time, Goat Hill struggled under mismanagement until local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham formed a new management team. Together with a dedicated staff and volunteer corps of tradesmen and citizens, the new management group is in the process of renovating and revitalizing Goat Hill Park into a place for recreation and socializing, in addition to golf.
