SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team earned the No. 4-seed for the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Division I Tournament and will face Morris College in its opening-round game.

The Field
The Cougars were granted the fourth seed for the A.I.I. tournament after a 12-18 overall season. Robert Morris (17-12) was named top-seed, host West Virginia Tech (15-13) the two-seed, and Voorhees College (S.C.) (14-16) is the third-seed. Morris (2-26) is the No. 5-seed and Allen University (1-25) is the No. 6-seed. RMC and WVU Tech receive first round byes. The winner of CSUSM and Morris will play RMC on Saturday with a trip to the finals on the line.
A Look Into The Past
CSUSM took home the A.I.I. Division II title in 2012, defeating Indiana Northwest, 61-58, in the semis before topping Valley City State (N.D.), 54-52, in the title game. The Cougars were ousted in the first round of the NAIA national tournament by Davenport (Mich.), 84-63.
Mechel'la Logan averaged 13.5 PPG and 9.5 RPG while
Sarah Jackson averaged 11.0 PPG to earn All-A.I.I. Tournament Team honors.
State of the Team
CSUSM has won three of its last four games to end the regular season after dropping eight of nine between Dec. 21-Jan. 23. The Cougars shot 42 percent from the floor in that span, four points better than their season average of 38 percent.
Cassie Damyanovich averaged 15.0 PPG over the last four games and four players – Jackson,
Alexandria Alvarado,
Heather Thompson and
Nanice Kollee – shot better than 50 percent.
