Heather Thompson helped the Cougars force overtime, but the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team could not keep pace with San Diego Christian in the extra period in a 70-64 loss on Tuesday night at the Ryan Athletic Center.

Fueled by Thompson's effort, CSUSM (5-6) took an early lead but a 10-4 run over the final 2:44 helped SDCC (5-1) to its second win in a row.
Miller scored a game-high 19 points, Thompson had her third double-double of the year, and the Cougars fought back to tie it after sticking within two possessions for the final 10 minutes of the second half.
Down by five with less than 30 seconds to play in regulation, Miller hit a 3-pointer off a dish from Thompson that made the score 56 -54. The Cougars fouled with 16 seconds to play to force free throws, and SDCC's Gabrielle Concepcion played into the strategy by missing both from the stripe.
Out of a timeout, Miller's layup was off the mark, but Thompson was there to corral the rebound and put it back up and in as time expired.
Thompson tallied 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Fellow forward
Kimberly Kipp was also efficient inside, finishing with 12 points (4-of-6) and nine boards.
SDCC led in the early part of the half, but Lyndsey Uyematsu gave the Cougars a 15-12 advantage with 5:41 left in the half. SDCC answered with a 5-0 run and eventually took a 23-22 lead into the break on Alexa Davidson's last-possession layup.
CSUSM shot 44.4 percent in the opening frame.
Gabriele Concepcion hit a 3-pointer on SDCC's opening possession and the Hawks jumped out to a seven point lead, 36-29, five minutes in.
However, CSUSM battled back to tie it, as
Cassie Damyanovich's 3-pointer polished off a 7-0 run to make it 36-36.
CSUSM could not regain the lead and found themselves down 55-48 with 2:12 remaining. However, the Hawks went without a field goal the rest of the way.
Damyanovich hit a 3-pointer to pull the Cougars within four before Chardonnay Shula made 1-of-2 free throws at the other end with 29 seconds to play.
Miller's only 3-pointer and Thompson's heroics forced overtime, but SDCC scored six straight points midway through the stanza to put the Cougars in a hole they could not overcome.
CSUSM will head north to the Cal Maritime Classic to play Menlo and Cal Maritime on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
