Cougars Revert Course
CSUSM snapped a five game drought with a 68-57 victory over Simpson on Dec. 14 at MiraCosta College … Heather Thompson grabbed a school-record 20 rebounds in the game … She also had 18 points and tied a school record with five blocks … Melaya Gaines matched her career high with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting while pulling down nine boards.

In The Ranks
Thompson ranks fifth in the NAIA in total rebounds (125); she is 11^th with 20 blocks … Cassie Damyanovich ranks sixth in the NAIA in total 3-pointers (35) and ninth in total scoring (204) … CSUSM is fourth in total rebounding (575), ninth in total blocks (46) and 15^th in total scoring offense (861).

Scouting Vanguard (7-0)
The Lions received nine of 10 first-place votes and 250 points in the first regular-season edition of the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll on Dec. 10 … It was VU's 30^th top mention dating back to 1999-00 … The Lions are one of nine undefeated squads in the nation … VU beat NCAA Division I opponent UC Santa Barbara in an exhibition on Nov. 4, 69-66 … Nicole Ballestero is averaging 23.5 points per game, third-most in the nation … The Cougars are 0-3 all-time against the Lions.

Dakota State (6-7)
Dakota State competes in NAIA Division II's North Star Athletic Association … CSUSM and DSU have never met … The Trojans lost six of seven Nov. 2-26, but have won two in a row and three of their last five … Alyson Drooger has the most blocks (46) and averages the most blocks per game (3.58) in NAIA DII … DSU ranks fourth in blocks (69) and blocks per game (5.308) in NAIA DII.
