Box Score REDDING, Calif. – Cassie Damyanovich matched her career high with 26 points in the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team's 78-71 victory over Pacific Union on Saturday night at the TCSA/DAP Hoops Classic hosted by Simpson University.
Damyanovich went 9-of-17 from the field and 4-of-8 from behind the arc, tying herself for the second-most points in CSUSM single-game history.
The Cougars have won back-to-back games and now sit at 4-3 overall. CSUSM will play Corban tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
CSUSM and PUC played a back-and-forth affair in which there were eight ties and seven lead changes.
The Cougars trailed by as much as nine in the first half, but finally earned its first tie on a pair of
Brianna Higgins free throws with 6:41 remaining.
Sherika Miller and Higgins then hit jumpers on consecutive possessions, but PUC came back to take a one-point advantage into the break.
Down by one with 5:35 left,
Heather Thompson hit a pair of free throws to retake the lead, and eventually made the margin four on a layup off Damyanovich's miss from the free-throw stripe.
Kyra Navarette cut the deficit to two for PUC, but CSUSM would make two free throws before Alexandra Alvarado scored off a PUC turnover to make it 74-68 with 49 seconds left. CSUSM iced the game with four free throws down the stretch.
