The Cal State San Marcos Women's Basketball Team had three honorees selected to the A.I.I. Division II All-Conference Team, including Head Coach Sheri Jennum, who was selected as the Coach of the Year after leading the Cougars to a conference championship and a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in just the program's first season.
Also receiving awards were point guard
Sidney Dobner, and forward Gabriel Munsch, who were each selected to the Second Team All-Conference. Dobner, a junior who led the Cougars with 12.1 points and 2.1 steals per game in the regular season, is 8
th in all of NAIA Division II in assists with 4.8 per game. Munsch, also a junior, was a key component down low for the Cougars, averaging 9.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, and led the team with a .489 field goal percentage.
Coach Sheri Jennum had the difficult task of establishing a brand new program, starting from scratch to find student-athletes and staff, and even a schedule –which was the 2
nd toughest in all of NAIA Division II)— yet still found a way to succeed. The Cougars have come up big when it mattered most, winning 7 of their last 8 games en route to winning the A.I.I. Conference Title.
Jennum has had success in the past before founding the San Marcos program, leading Palomar College to a 74-17 record and 3 consecutive Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships from 2009-2011.
The season is not yet over for Coach Jennum and the Cougars, as Cal State San Marcos will play in the NAIA National Championships in Sioux City, Iowa. Final brackets for the tournament have not yet been released, but games will take place March 7
