The Cal State San Marcos Women's Basketball Team won handily at home against La Sierra Saturday night, using another brilliant defensive effort to secure their 4
th consecutive victory.
The Cougars have been playing lights-out defense lately, holding their opponent to under 30% shooting for their 3
rd straight game, and posted a season best 35 points allowed against La Sierra. The Golden Eagles only managed to shoot 16% against a stingy San Marcos defense.
CSUSM led from the opening basket and never looked back Saturday night, leading by 10 or more for much of the first half, but took just a 28-21 lead into the locker rooms at halftime. However, the Lady Cougars made a statement in the second half, outscoring the Golden Eagles 42-14 after the break.
Cassie Damyanovich caught fire in the second half of the contest, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring a team high 16 points for the Cougars.
Sidney Dobner contributed 13 points, and
Danielle Cooper nearly got herself a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 8 rebounds.
Justine Chacon, the team's only senior, was recognized before the game on Senior Night, and added 11 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals. In all, CSUSM shot 46.7% on field goals for the evening.
The Cougars are now 15-13 with the victory, and have two regular season games remaining before the A.I.I. Conference Tournament in South Dakota.
