REDDING, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team led by as much as 13 in the second half, but Ariassa Wilson's jumper in the paint with seven seconds remaining handed Simpson University (Calif.) a 58-57 win on Friday night at the Student Life Center.

Mechel'la Logan's layup handed CSUSM a three-point advantage with 2:02 remaining, but Simpson's Sarah Quantz immediately answered off the made basket with a layup to make the score 57-56.

After the teams traded missed baskets and turnovers, Quantz came up with a steal to give Simpson (3-6) a chance to take the lead with under 19 seconds left. She took a shot and the ball went out of bounds back to the Red Hawks off a Cougar player.

Off the inbound, Nichole Jones threw up a wayward shot, but Wilson was there to corral the rebound and toss it back in.

Sarah Jackson's attempt to give CSUSM the win missed with less than a second remaining.

Anna Nguyen led CSUSM (3-6) with 12 points and five boards in 17 minutes of work. Sherika Miller chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds, and Jackson registered game highs of four assists and five steals.

For the Red Hawks, Jones and Wilson scored 19 points apiece. Simpson went 21-of-26 from the free throw line, compared to just 5-of-9 for the Cougars.

CSUSM travels to face Menlo College on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
